An insulated property is more energy efficient than an uninsulated home – resulting in reduced energy bills and a smaller carbon footprint. If your house does not have cavity wall or loft insulation, heat will be escaping via the walls and roof. As a result, it will be difficult to retain the warmth in your home – even with a modern boiler. To help with funding, home insulation grants are available to those who qualify.
Boiler Grants Application Process
Otherwise known as the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Scheme, non-refundable home insulation grants cover 100% of the costs for loft or cavity wall insulation to make homes more energy efficient, without the need for repayment.
Not everyone is eligible for these grants. To qualify, you must either own or privately rent your home and be in receipt of one of the following means-tested benefits:
• State Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (earning £15,860 or less per year)
If you receive other benefits such as income support, or live within a certain geographical area, you may also be eligible. You can find out more by checking your postcode, or by using the government’s energy grant calculator.
Cavity Wall Insulation Grants
Cavity wall insulation is considered one of the most cost-effective ways of reducing your energy bills. In an uninsulated property, 35% of heat is lost through the walls. By insulating your cavity walls, you could save up to £140 per year on energy bills. Cavity wall insulation grants are available for those homeowners who are eligible.

An uninsulated home will lose 25% of its heat through the loft and roof. By preventing this heat loss, loft insulation can result in savings of up to £180 per year on energy bills. Loft insulation grants make this possible with no cost, for those who are eligible.
