Warranty

Navien gas boilers come with a 7-year warranty, and Navien oil boilers are guaranteed for up to 10 years. The boiler warranty is generous and gives you peace of mind that you’ll be covered should your Navien boiler break down due to a faulty component within the boiler. However, Navien requires your boiler to be serviced once a year by a qualified engineer. Otherwise, you’ll invalidate your warranty.

Navien warranties should be installed by a registered gas-safe engineer and registered within 30 days for the warranty to remain valid. 

It should also be noted that Navien’s warranty says that the warranty DOES NOT cover, “Product purchased through the internet, other e-commerce channels, or any installer that obtained the Product from a supplier or distributor not authorized by Navien.”

Unfortunately, some content platforms that pitch themselves as trustworthy advisors are often acting as a PR vehicle.

Judging by Navien’s Trustpilot account, the South Korean outfit receives mixed reviews, but the majority of customers (73%) are 5-star satisfied with their boiler and the dedication of Navien’s customer service. 

Only 19% felt the need to complain and award Navien one star. The most common issues are poor customer service, temperature fluctuations and occasional leaks. The overall rating is 3.3 but only 172 reviews have been left. Whilst that is not a big enough sample size to categorically rate Navien, 19% of 172 customers does not inspire much confidence. In all honesty, there is very little evidence to work within the UK market. To compensate, we turned to the US market where Navien has been operating since 2006. Even the sympathetic PR content in the US noted that Navien has “reliability issues”.

Boiler Prices Verdict on the Navien Boilers: 2/5

Navien’s website indicates they aim to become the number #1 boiler brand in the UK. If that is the goal of the ambitions South Korean behemoth, it will have to level up its game. 

At the moment, Navien is lagging behind its competitors in terms of reliability and customer service. It also appears as though the price point is as ambitious as the goal to be the most popular boiler manufacturer in the UK. With prices ranging from circa £720-£2500, you will find a deluge of more reliable products for the same price, if not lower. 

Where Naviem does earn praise is innovation. The Asian giants have mastered energy efficiency, not only in the build and functionality of the boiler but also in how owners use it. 

The smart controls that Navien offer, they say, could improve energy efficiency by up to 4%, from 94-98%. That’s a huge leap. Of course, it can only be measured accurately in individual households and it’s doubtful that anyone can realistically save 4% through use alone, but the potential should encourage homeowners to take advantage of the smart controls to control your heating settings remotely. 

Hugh credit also has to go to Navien for offering 12 and 10 year warranties on its higher-priced products. Warranties of this length rival the best of Britain, and given the question mark over the reliability and durability of Navien boilers, it’s a brave and generous offer. 

Even the 5 year warranty for the entry-level NCB 300 matches the industry standard for the best boilers in the UK, and is better than many. You may have to pay slightly more for a Navien than you will with some brands, but at least you have peace of mind that you will be covered. 

But wait. There is the question of the questionable customer service. It seems as though the installers are not responsive once complaints come in. Customers are being left with broken boilers and no heating. That may be one way to avoid honouring a generous warranty. 

So, why buy a Navien boiler? 

Navien has been operating in the UK since 2014, so its boilers are relatively new in the UK market. But Navien is well-known elsewhere and is responsible for manufacturing the best-selling boiler in the USA. 

The energy-saving technology should also be applauded. A Navien boiler has the potential to shave several hundred pounds off your current utility bill.
