Navien: A Trusted Name in Boilers
Navien was founded in South Korea in 1978 as KyungDong Machinery Co. Ltd. Initially, it focused on manufacturing and selling boilers and water heaters domestically before expanding into the American market in 2006.
Since then, Navien has become a global leader in condensing technology and is the fourth-largest boiler manufacturer in the world. It was the first company in Asia to develop and produce a highly efficient and environmentally friendly condensing boiler.
Throughout its history, Navien has focused on innovation, quality, and energy efficiency. This approach has enabled the company, to establish itself as a leading manufacturer of heating and water heating solutions globally. Its products are known for their advanced technology, reliability, and environmental sustainability.
The company offers a small range of gas combi and system boilers, along with oil combi, system and regular boilers available in interior and exterior options. Navien boilers have already taken America and the rest of the world by storm, and the company’s goal is to become the UK’s number-one boiler brand.
Considerations when buying a Navien Boiler
Buying a boiler entails a substantial investment. Furthermore, discerning the most suitable boiler for your heating and water requirements can prove challenging amidst the abundance of online content. Regrettably, much of the information in the heating industry is advertorial, and sponsored by various brands. Prior to finalizing your boiler purchase, it’s essential to heed the following key considerations:
Energy-Efficiency
The ErP rating, indicative of energy efficiency, signifies the amount of heat the boiler conserves. Standard A-rated boilers typically retain a minimum of 90% of generated heat although some sources quote 92% to stay in line with the government’s minimum requirements. Navien boilers are rated A (94%) and A+ (98%) with a single Smart Plus thermostat.
The contemporary smart controls also allow you to control your heating remotely directly from your smartphone. This convenient functionality permits temperature adjustments for optimal comfort or customisation of settings to align with your schedule.
Dimensions
Navien proudly offers one of the most compact and lightweight boilers available in the UK market. Measuring merely W440 x D335 x H695mm, homeowners in the UK will find it effortless to install a wall-mounted unit even in tight spaces, such as kitchen cupboards.
Performance Output in kW
The boiler’s performance output, measured in kilowatts (kW), stands as one of the pivotal factors to consider. If the output is too low, meeting your heating and water requirements becomes challenging; conversely, an excessively high output leads to overheating and unnecessary expenditure. Generally, higher kW entails higher costs.
Navien combi boilers deliver a wide range of outputs ranging from 24 to 54 which will comfortably heat UK homes. A 24 kW output suits small to medium-sized homes with 2 or 3 bedrooms and one bathroom ideally. For larger homes with 4 bedrooms and multiple bathrooms, anything over a 28 kW unit is recommended depending on how well-insulated your property is. Larger homes should consider 35 kW units and above. A Navien supplier will be able to offer advice.
Ease and Cost of Installation
The ease of accessing the installation site and the complexities involved in fitting a specific boiler can influence labour costs significantly. According to Gas Safe engineers, Navien boilers are among the easiest to install, with readily available components in the UK. This translates to lower installation, servicing, and maintenance expenses, as labour charges are less likely to accumulate. It’s important to factor in the cost of professional gas-safe installers when budgeting for your new boiler, keeping in mind that installation costs are typically not included in the boiler’s listed price.
While Boiler Prices cannot offer specific rates for every boiler installation provider, we can provide a general estimate. The average installation cost for a new energy-efficient boiler in the UK typically ranges between £1,100 and £1,800. Opting for Navien gas boilers could potentially save you hundreds of pounds compared to boilers that are more challenging to install.
To determine the exact cost of installing a new Navien boiler in your home, utilize Boiler Prices’ “get a quote” feature. Warranty
Navien gas boilers come with a 7-year warranty, and Navien oil boilers are guaranteed for up to 10 years. The boiler warranty is generous and gives you peace of mind that you’ll be covered should your Navien boiler break down due to a faulty component within the boiler. However, Navien requires your boiler to be serviced once a year by a qualified engineer. Otherwise, you’ll invalidate your warranty.
Navien Combi Boilers: Compact, Efficient, and Cost-Saving
Navien combi boilers are SEDBUK A-rated, meaning they boast energy efficiencies of at least 94%. If you also invest in the company’s smart technology, you can increase energy-efficiency levels to 98% – according to Navien.
In addition to being highly efficient, Navien combi boilers are compact units that can be installed almost anywhere in your property, making them ideal if your home is on the small side. Navien currently offers the NCB Combi range, which comes in four sizes to suit most households and will set you back between £756 and £980, depending on the boiler output you require.
Note: the prices listed below are the purchase prices for the boiler only. They do not include installation costs.
COMBI GAS BOILER SERIES | SIZES | SIZE OF HOME | PRICE |
---|---|---|---|

Navien System Boilers: Easy installation, efficient heating, and customisable options
Gas system boilers from Navien can heat your home and provide plenty of hot water whenever you need it, but they require a separate cylinder for storing hot water. That means they need more space than a combi boiler. One of the benefits of Navien system boilers is that they can handle high hot water demand, making them ideal for homes with more than one bathroom. They cost between £719 and £942 and come in a range of outputs, including 20kW, 23kW, 28kW or 33kW.
Note: the prices listed below are the purchase prices for the boiler only. They do not include installation costs.

Navien heat-only boilers run on oil rather than gas. They could be perfect for your home and needs if you’re not connected to the national grid or you prefer oil over gas. A performance output of 36kW is ideal for larger properties.
The oil range includes oil combi, system and regular boilers presented in smart and simple casings, and all models are available in interior and exterior options to suit your requirements. Navien’s oil boilers feature a smart control panel and provide up to ERP A+ when used with a Smart Plus control pack.

Navien Boiler Warranties
Every Navien boiler includes a manufacturer-backed warranty as a standard feature, ensuring peace of mind with free parts and labour service in the event of a breakdown during the warranty period.
The duration of your Navien boiler warranty depends on the model chosen for installation. Warranty periods typically range from 5 years parts of labour for the most affordable model, 10 years for the mid-range unit and 12 for the premium product.
Navien warranties should be installed by a registered gas-safe engineer and registered within 30 days for the warranty to remain valid.
It should also be noted that Navien’s warranty says that the warranty DOES NOT cover, “Product purchased through the internet, other e-commerce channels, or any installer that obtained the Product from a supplier or distributor not authorized by Navien.”
Navien Boiler Controls
Navien’s selection of intelligent boiler controls, such as the Smart Plus Controller and the Smart Plus ON AI Controller, signifies a significant advancement in home heating technology.
These systems seamlessly integrate intelligent features, aiming to streamline and enhance heating processes, improve reliability, and give homeowners more control over how and when you use your heating.
Navien claims their advanced smart technology improves efficiency by up to 4%. When equipped with a smart controller, Navien boilers could attain an A+ ErP rating. Given the ErP directive’s requirement for boilers to possess high-efficiency ratings for sale, integrating a smart controller facilitates compliance with this regulation.
Navien Boiler Cover and Breakdown Options
For Navien boiler owners, investing in boiler cover is crucial to safeguard your investment and maintain consistent functionality of your home’s heating and hot water supply. Boiler cover acts as a safety net, shielding homeowners from costly repair expenses and granting access to dependable engineers capable of promptly diagnosing and resolving any Navien boiler issues.
Navien boilers are a favoured option among homeowners seeking dependable and efficient heating solutions. However, like any boiler, they can encounter occasional issues. Hence, having a suitable boiler cover is essential to swiftly and effectively address any problems.
Navien provides various boiler cover options tailored to diverse needs and budgets:
- Standard Cover: This encompasses repair costs for your boiler, including parts and labour, along with an annual boiler service to maintain its optimal functionality.
- Premium Cover: In addition to standard cover benefits, this option extends coverage to your central heating system, encompassing radiators, pipes, and controls.
- Home Emergency Cover: This offers protection against emergencies such as burst pipes, blocked drains, electrical failures, and boiler breakdowns.
Selecting the appropriate level of cover ensures comprehensive protection in case of boiler or central heating system issues.
When opting for Navien boiler cover, it’s vital to review the policy’s inclusions and exclusions. For instance, some policies may not cover damage from limescale, while others might exclude issues stemming from improper installation or maintenance practices.
Navien Boiler Surveys and Reviews
Boiler surveys and customer reviews stand out as the most reliable sources of independent and unbiased advice for the UK heating industry. It’s important to exercise caution by weighing up the content published by consumer magazines with the overriding view of UK homeowners in trusted review sites such as Trustpilot. Unfortunately, some content platforms that pitch themselves as trustworthy advisors are often acting as a PR vehicle.
Judging by Navien’s Trustpilot account, the South Korean outfit receives mixed reviews, but the majority of customers (73%) are 5-star satisfied with their boiler and the dedication of Navien’s customer service.
Only 19% felt the need to complain and award Navien one star. The most common issues are poor customer service, temperature fluctuations and occasional leaks. The overall rating is 3.3 but only 172 reviews have been left. Whilst that is not a big enough sample size to categorically rate Navien, 19% of 172 customers does not inspire much confidence. In all honesty, there is very little evidence to work within the UK market. To compensate, we turned to the US market where Navien has been operating since 2006. Even the sympathetic PR content in the US noted that Navien has “reliability issues”.
Boiler Prices Verdict on the Navien Boilers: 2/5
Navien’s website indicates they aim to become the number #1 boiler brand in the UK. If that is the goal of the ambitions South Korean behemoth, it will have to level up its game.
At the moment, Navien is lagging behind its competitors in terms of reliability and customer service. It also appears as though the price point is as ambitious as the goal to be the most popular boiler manufacturer in the UK. With prices ranging from circa £720-£2500, you will find a deluge of more reliable products for the same price, if not lower.
Where Naviem does earn praise is innovation. The Asian giants have mastered energy efficiency, not only in the build and functionality of the boiler but also in how owners use it.
The smart controls that Navien offer, they say, could improve energy efficiency by up to 4%, from 94-98%. That’s a huge leap. Of course, it can only be measured accurately in individual households and it’s doubtful that anyone can realistically save 4% through use alone, but the potential should encourage homeowners to take advantage of the smart controls to control your heating settings remotely.
Hugh credit also has to go to Navien for offering 12 and 10 year warranties on its higher-priced products. Warranties of this length rival the best of Britain, and given the question mark over the reliability and durability of Navien boilers, it’s a brave and generous offer.
Even the 5 year warranty for the entry-level NCB 300 matches the industry standard for the best boilers in the UK, and is better than many. You may have to pay slightly more for a Navien than you will with some brands, but at least you have peace of mind that you will be covered.
But wait. There is the question of the questionable customer service. It seems as though the installers are not responsive once complaints come in. Customers are being left with broken boilers and no heating. That may be one way to avoid honouring a generous warranty.
So, why buy a Navien boiler?
Navien has been operating in the UK since 2014, so its boilers are relatively new in the UK market. But Navien is well-known elsewhere and is responsible for manufacturing the best-selling boiler in the USA.
The energy-saving technology should also be applauded. A Navien boiler has the potential to shave several hundred pounds off your current utility bill.
