Intergas Boilers: Prices, Reviews and Benefits

Intergas Boilers: A Complete Guide to their Prices, Reviews, Warranties And a Lot More

Intergas is dedicated to producing reliable energy-efficient boilers that represent great value for money and effectively lower your carbon emissions and energy bills. With prices ranging from £630-£1400, the Dutch manufacturer could be worth looking into.

According to the company, none of its industry-leading heat exchangers has developed a fault. What’s more, the company backs up its claim by offering a 10-year warranty on “all its heat exchangers” which are fitted in all its boilers.

The Intergas two-in-one heat exchanger optimises efficiency and ensures each boiler uses less fuel to keep homes warm and comfortable. Intergas says its boilers routinely lower emissions by 20% and save up to a further 5% off energy bills over all other condensing boilers in the UK.

The brand’s premium boilers also come with a generous 10-warranty, whilst the less expensive models come with either a 7,6 or 3-year warranty which is none-too-shabby when compared to other boiler brands with similar price points.

However, during our investigation, we did find some questionable online hocus-pocus which has left us feeling uneasy and confused about Intergas.

Find out why by tucking into the content below.

Intergas: A Trusted Name in Boilers

Intergas is a Dutch heating company with a rich history dating back to 1939 when it was founded in Coevorden, Netherlands. Initially known as “Machinefabriek van de Wetering”, the company specialised in manufacturing metalworking machinery and tools.

In 1963, Intergas transitioned its focus to the heating industry, marking a significant turning point in its history. The company began producing its first central heating boilers, laying the foundation for its future as a leading innovator in the heating technology sector.

Throughout the following decades, Intergas continued to evolve and innovate its product offerings, consistently striving to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and user-friendliness in its heating systems. In 1989, Intergas introduced its revolutionary two-in-one heat exchanger, a groundbreaking innovation that combined a central heating boiler and a water heater into a single, compact unit. This innovation set a new standard for efficiency and performance in the heating industry and solidified Intergas’ reputation as an industry leader.

In the early 2000s, Intergas expanded its presence beyond the Netherlands, establishing a foothold in other European markets, including the United Kingdom. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability has earned it numerous accolades and certifications over the years, further enhancing its reputation as a trusted provider of high-quality heating solutions.

Today, Intergas continues to build on its legacy of innovation, offering a comprehensive range of boilers and heating systems designed to meet the evolving needs of homeowners and businesses. With a focus on energy efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability, Intergas remains at the forefront of the heating industry, driving progress and setting new standards for excellence.

In 2019, Intergas were nominated finalists in four categories in the National Energy Efficiency Awards, but don’t appear to have won them. Nevertheless, being nominated is impressive.

Considerations when buying an Intergas Boiler

Before making your decision on which boiler system is best suited for your home, it’s essential to understand which metrics and data to look for. Below are a few pointers:

Energy-Efficiency

Energy-efficient boilers employ condensing technology, a groundbreaking innovation that extracts more heat from the combustion process and recovers otherwise lost heat. Intergas has designed a bithermic heat exchanger that guarantees excellent energy efficiency.

By harnessing this advanced technology, homeowners can significantly reduce energy bills and play their part in environmental sustainability efforts by minimising carbon emissions.

Dimensions

If space poses a challenge in your home, it’s essential to consider the dimensions of a new wall-mounted boiler. Combi boilers are the most compact and Intergas has lowered to dimensions down to H860mm x W450mm x D277. They are not the smallest on the market but they should fit comfortably in tight spaces.

It’s important to note that system boilers and heat-only boilers require additional storage space for cylinders and water tanks. For homeowners with limited space, opting for combi boilers is the most practical choice, simplifying both installation and maintenance processes.

Performance Output in kW

The performance output of a boiler, measured in kilowatts (kW), indicates its effectiveness in meeting the heating requirements of your home. This metric signifies the amount of heat the boiler can generate per unit of time. Generally, a higher kW rating indicates a greater heating capacity.

Selecting a boiler with an appropriate kW rating is crucial to ensure it matches the heating demand of your building or space. Opting for a boiler with insufficient kW capacity may result in inadequate heating, whereas choosing one with excessive capacity can lead to inefficiencies and increased energy consumption.

Intergas offers a good selection of kW outputs for most size homes. The combi model are 20kW, 26kW or 32kW whilst the entry-level Rapid is available in either 18kW or 25kW.

The Heat-Only boilers come in 18kW, 23kW, 27kW and 41kW which should be enough to heat any size house in the UK.

Ease and Cost of Installation

The accessibility of the installation site and the complexities involved in fitting a particular boiler can significantly impact labour costs. According to gas-safe engineers, Intergas boilers are among the easiest to fit, and their components are readily available in the UK.

This translates to potentially lower installation costs, as servicing and maintenance tasks are less likely to be compounded by extensive labour charges. It’s important to factor in the cost of professional gas-safe installers when budgeting for your new boiler, keeping in mind that installation costs are typically not included in the boiler’s listed price.

While Boiler Prices cannot provide specific rates for every boiler installation provider, the average installation cost for a new energy-efficient boiler in the UK ranges from £1,100 to £1,800. Opting for an Intergas gas boiler could potentially save you hundreds of pounds compared to boilers that are more challenging to install.

To determine the exact cost of installing a new Intergas boiler in your home, take advantage of the Boiler Prices’ ‘get a quote’ feature. This convenient tool provides access to a wide range of suppliers and installers in your area, allowing you to compare prices and select the best quote for your needs. With no obligation to buy, you have nothing to lose by generating a selection of the best quotes and making an informed decision.

Warranty

The length of a boiler warranty is a good measure to determine how much confidence a manufacturer has in its product. Intergas are pretty confident.

Some of the boilers in its range come with a handsome 10-year warranty, namely the Extreme, Eco RF Combi and the Xclusive Combi. Other models are covered for either 7, 6 or 3 years.

We probably wouldn’t ever choose a boiler with a short-term warranty as you just never how long it will be before your boiler runs into a problem. With this in mind, we recommend you go for an Intergas boiler with a warranty of 10 years or 7 years at the very least.

Intergas Combi Boilers: Compact, Efficient, and Cost-Saving

Gas-fired combi boilers from Intergas can transport hot water to your taps and radiators all by themselves, meaning they don’t require a separate tank in the loft or a cylinder in the airing cupboard to store water. Intergas combi boilers heat water directly from the mains to deliver on-demand hot water and are available in a range of outputs to suit your requirements.

The lower output Intergas combi boiler models are ideal for smaller properties with one bathroom and the larger outputs are designed for larger homes with multiple bathrooms and higher hot water demand. If you’re interested in purchasing an Intergas combi, you’ll be looking at spending between £630 and £1,400.

The Intergas combi boiler range includes the following models and output options:

Note: the prices listed below are the purchase prices for the boiler only. They do not include installation costs.

Intergas System Boilers: Easy installation, efficient heating, and customisable options

System boilers work alongside a cylinder, which is needed to store your hot water. Intergas system boilers are good for homes that have high hot water demand and properties that use more than one shower or bath at the same time.

They do, however, require more space than combi boilers as they need to be installed with a separate cylinder, usually sited in the airing cupboard. System boilers from Intergas are available in a variety of heat outputs and typically cost between £830 and £1,105, depending on which size you need.

The following table shows the Intergas system boilers that are currently available:

Note: the prices listed below are the purchase prices for the boiler only. They do not include installation costs.

Intergas Heat Only Boilers: Versatility, Efficiency, and Reliability

Regular boilers are also referred to as conventional or heat-only boilers and they require an additional tank in the loft and a separate cylinder to store hot water. This means that a regular boiler won’t be the best option if you have a small home with limited space.

Intergas regular boilers are suitable for homes with a traditional system in place and properties with an existing open-vent boiler. The higher your hot water demand, the higher the kW output (size) of the boiler you’ll need.

Unsure about which boiler you should choose?

Don’t be afraid to ask a local Gas Safe registered to advise you on the best type and size for your home and requirements. If you decide to get an Intergas regular boiler, it will cost you anything from £800 to £950.

Intergas Boiler Warranties

Intergas offers some of the best warranties on the market. Its premium range comes with an admirable 10-year warranty, including the Eco RF Combi and the Xclusive Combi, whereas others are only covered for 3, 6 or 7 years.

To ensure the warranty is valid for the time it covers, customers are required to register the boiler with Intergas within 30 days of installation and ensure it is serviced and maintained by an Intergas-registered engineer.

Intergas Boiler Controls

Intergas boiler controls feature intuitive interfaces that make them easy to use for homeowners. Clear displays and simple menus allow users to adjust settings, program schedules, and monitor system performance with ease.

Intergas Boiler Cover and Breakdown Options

Intergas does not offer boiler and breakdown cover, but you can purchase this from an independent insurance company. Policies from YourRepair are the leading type among other heating suppliers. Breakdown cover starts from £8 a month.

Intergas Boiler Surveys and Reviews

According to the Which? reliability and customer satisfaction survey in February 2024, Intergas is an average boiler brand. It scored 52% overall, and the results tell us that engineers like the simple design of the boilers and the fact they find it easy to fix common faults.

However, engineers also said that they have had issues getting their hands on parts and spares. Overall, Intergas gets a 3 out of 5 rating from engineers.

Customers also award Intergas 3 out of 5 stars and an overall average of 66% customer satisfaction score, which falls short of most other brands in the UK market.

Below, you can find the brand data results for Intergas gas boilers, which we sourced from the Which? website.

This seems at odds with the impressive 4.6 out of 5 on Trustpilot – which is one of the highest ratings earned by a boiler manufacturer.

We are a curious bunch here at Boiler Prices and when an anomaly like this crops up, we take a deep dive to investigate. In this instance, we cross-referenced the review on Trustpilot with the reviews left on another consumer review website – Review Centre, which we have questioned the authenticity of before.

Intergas scored 3.7 out of a possible 5 on Review Centre. On the face of it, that’s not a bad score, but it’s not great either.

Upon reading the reviews that have been left, it is evident that many of them have been left by engineers who install Intergas boilers. This in itself is suspicious, because gas-safe engineers don’t typically turn to review sites to praise boiler manufacturers.

Our guess is they are affiliated companies or engineers who are commissioned to install Intergas boilers so have a vested interest.

We also came across this warning from one reviewer:

Please check out the dates of these reviews, Many of them were written over a 3 or 4-day period in May 2018 and all were given 5 stars suggesting to me that these were written by the same person and are not valid reviews SO BEWARE”

It is true that some of these reviews use the same language or make the same points so do look as though they are not authentic. Sometimes, it can be hard to tell. The dates of the reviews on Review Centre are also patchy, ranging from 2016-2018. And then you get 10 within four days of each other.

Suspicious.

So, we went back to take a closer look at Intergas’ Trustpilot and noted the earliest reviews on that website were also dated from 2018 and 2019. Most of them were written by boiler installers, feature the same language you find on Review Centre and mention things you wouldn’t ordinarily expect the average homeowner Joe to know about boilers: i.e. “Intergas boilers have fewer moving parts.”

The dates of the questionable reviews on Trustpilot also fall in line with the dates on Review Centre 2019.

Having said that, the most recent comments do genuinely appear to have come from homeowners. And Intergas is racking up a significant number of 5-star reviews this year (2024).

Looking at the 6% of 1-star reviews, customer complaints span four years between 2020 and 2024 and are sporadic. This is nothing unusual for the heating sector. The pattern is consistent with practically every other boiler manufacturer in the UK market.

The big question is, how many of the inauthentic reviews have bumped Intergas’ score up to 4.6 stars? We are almost certain it would not be that high were it not for the wealth of 5-star reviews left by heating engineers.

How do Intergas boilers compare with other boiler brands?

Intergas are a middle-of-the-road boiler company with prices ranging from £630-£1400.

The brands Intergas are most comparable to are Ideal, Vaillant and Baxi, all of whom have similar-priced boilers in their product line. Baxi, however, only offers a 7-year warranty which is less than Intergas’ 10 years. The premium range models offered by Ideal and Vaillant are also several hundred pounds more expensive.

So Intergas do appear to represent good value for money. The top-of-the-range models costing between £900 and £1400 are similar to the prices you would expect to pay for an Ideal Vogue and Worcester Greenstar 4000, but the latter is arguably more reliable.

Boiler Prices Verdict on the Intergas Boilers: 3/5

So far, Intergas has been the most difficult boiler brand in the UK to rate. We have fallen on the halfway mark because we are undecided about how reliable Intergas boilers are.

You could argue that we give the Dutch company the benefit of the doubt and nudge the rating up from 3 to a 4 or even a 4.5. On the evidence of the most recent Trustpilot review, we certainly wouldn’t have any qualms about awarding at least a 4 out of 5.

However, because a significant percentage of the reviews featured on the company’s Trustpilot account appear to be disingenuous, we do not feel as though the 4.6 out of 5 stars is an accurate reflection of the company.

On the plus side, we can confirm that very few complaints have been made about Intergas over the last three years when levied against the positive views –  by customers that appear to be authentic. We felt it fair to award half a point here, which we will increase if authentic reviews continue to be positive.

What’s more, the company’s customer service team is quick to react to any problems its customers are experiencing if the boiler is under warranty. Our rating reflects these plus points so we awarded a full point here.

We added another half mark to reflect that Intergas does offer boilers that appear to be excellent value for money. However, excellent value for money only holds any currency if the boilers do not break down.

In fairness, we could award a full point here based on the evidence. However, we must provide UK consumers with impartial advice so come down hard on companies that fudge its online visibility.

The other point is for Intergas’ generous warranty which is in line with the best boiler brands in the UK. Boasting 7 and 10-year warranties, Intergas are prepared to give its customers peace of mind and show confidence in its products. So kudos where kudos is due.

So, why buy an Intergas boiler?

Intergas offers a great range of combi, system and regular boilers that operate at high levels of efficiency and come complete with an impressive heat exchanger which has a 10-year warranty regardless of the boiler you purchase.

According to Intergas, its two-in-one heat exchanger has never had a single mechanical failure. Plus, these boilers contain very few working parts which further reduces the risk of breakdowns.
