Ideal Heating: A Trusted Name in Boilers
Ideal Heating was founded in 1905, the same year Albert Einstein published his thesis on the theory of relativity. That makes the Hull-based boiler manufacturer a centurion.
The company has been a key player in the UK heating market developing more efficient and advanced boilers to meet the evolving needs of homeowners. With a commitment to maintaining high standards in product quality and customer service, Ideal established itself as a pioneer in the development of energy-efficient boilers in the 1990s.
2015 was a landmark year for the north-east manufacturers. The acquisition of Groupe Atlantic, saw them become a major international player in the heating and cooling industry. This acquisition aimed to strengthen Ideal’s position and provide opportunities for further growth.
The company’s illustrious history demonstrates that Ideal Heating understand what domestic and commercial customers really want from a boiler. The brand also knows that consumers demand good value for money.
Their commitment to innovation and energy efficiency has scooped the company numerous awards including the Hull Digital Awards and two coveted Queen’s Awards for Enterprise for its Logic and Vogue range.
Ideal manufacture combi boilers, system boilers and regular heat-only boilers for all types and sizes of housing. They also produce several models from entry-level to premium in order to cater for a wide range of price points.
At the top of the line is the Vogue Max Combi GEN 2 combi boiler which comes with an impressive 12-year warranty. But even their entry-level Logic+ has a 7-year warranty which is commendable for a low-cost boiler (most boilers in this price point and build quality only offer 2-5 years.) Ideal estimate the shelf life is between 10-15 years on all their boilers.
The dilemma you need to address is what type and size boiler you need. If you’re looking at a combi, Ideal says a 24kW boiler can heat up to 10 radiators, 28kW up to 15 and 32kW up to 20.
System boilers and heat-only boilers are better suited to larger homes of three bedrooms or more. System boilers are available in 15, 18 and 26kW and have a sufficient amount of power to heat homes with five bedrooms and up to 20 radiators.
Heat-only boilers have heat outputs of 12kW, 15kW, 18kW, 24kW and 30kW, the lowest being suited to small homes with three bedrooms and are compact enough to discretely install in a cupboard, but you will still need space for the cold water tank and a cylinder.
Considerations when buying an Ideal Heating Boiler
Ideal Heating has a long-standing reputation for manufacturing reliable and efficient boilers, but before you decide which system is best for your home, consider what Ideal Heating boilers offer.
Energy-Efficiency
Ideal energy-efficient boilers utilise condensing technology which extracts more heat from the combustion process and recovers heat that would otherwise be lost. Their innovative technology helps homeowners to lower energy bills and contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.
Dimensions
If space is an issue in your home, check the dimensions of Ideal boilers. The boilers themselves are typically compact which is ideal for space-saving. However, remember that system boilers and heat-only boilers need additional storage space for cylinders and water tanks. Combi boilers are the best choice for homeowners with limited space, making installation and maintenance more manageable.
Performance Output in kW
Ideal energy-efficient heaters have an ErP rating between 90-94%. They’re not the most energy-efficient in the UK market. The UK Government recommends a 92% SEBDUK rating.
Many energy-efficient boilers come with smart and connected features which can help to conserve energy and control your heating with greater efficiency. These features allow homeowners to control and monitor their heating systems remotely through mobile apps, optimizing energy usage and providing convenience when scheduling or adjusting.
Ease and Cost of Installation
When you purchase a boiler, consider how easy they are to install and maintain. Whilst that may not be the most obvious consideration, boilers that are not so easy to work with take longer to install and repair – which bumps up the labour costs.
According to gas-safe engineers, Ideal are one of the easiest to fit and components are readily available in the UK. This all means that installation costs, servicing and maintenance tasks are less likely to be stacked up by labour charges.
Although Boiler Prices is not able to provide specific rates for every boiler installation provider, we can say the average installation cost for a new energy-efficient boiler in the UK is between £1,100 – £1,800. It could easily be the case that Ideal gas boiler prices could save you hundreds of pounds over boilers that are more difficult to install.

Warranty A manufacturer’s warranty is a good indication of how much confidence the company has in the reliability of its product. Ideal offers warranties of 7, 10, or 12 years which is pretty standard in the UK market.
Ideal Combi Boilers: Compact, Efficient, and Cost-Saving
Designed to improve energy efficiency in a wide range of property sizes, Ideal combi boilers are available in a selection of models that suit most domestic situations.
Ideal combi boilers are quiet, compact in size and include built-in frost protection. They also heat water at the source without the need for additional water tanks or cylinders so are ideal for terraced homes and small houses that have limited space.
Ideal boilers also feature simple controls and a user-friendly display to ensure heating and hot water can be managed with ease. What’s more, all Ideal combi boilers come with a manufacturer warranty, ranging between 7, 10, and 12 years.
In terms of pricing, Ideal combi boilers vary depending on your home’s hot water and heating demands. For example, the Vogue Combi Boiler has an average price of £943, the Logic Max Combi boiler is a similar price point ringing in at around £952, while the entry-level Logic+ Combi boiler is a little cheaper at £749.
In price comparison tables for combi boilers, Ideal is not the cheapest, but products with a 10-year warranty indicate they are among the most cost-effective. This speaks of Ideal’s superior build quality which could prove to deliver long-term savings.

Ideal Boiler Surveys and Reviews
Before you can truly grasp the reliability and reputation of a brand, you have to rely on customer feedback.
TrustPilot
It’s fair to say that TrustPilot is one of the most used and reliable sources for researching products on the internet. Ideal has earned a highly respectable score of 4.8 out of 5 with a whopping 90% of their customers giving them a 5-stars. That’s about as good as it gets considering almost 40,000 customers have left feedback. Only 3% left a 1-star rating.
By all accounts, Ideal customer service is arguably one of the best in the boiler industry. It seems their gas-safe engineers are generally jolly nice chaps. But Ideal also has a competent customer service team that is helpful and responds fairly quickly to customer calls.
Which? Engineers Review
In the most recent Which? survey (Dec 2023), Ideal was ranked 3rd behind Worcester Bosch and Vaillant which, to be fair, are two titans of the UK boiler market.
Ideal only fell 3% short of Vaillant in the scoring charts with a commendable 78%. Ironically, they are let down with 3/5 for manufacturer support — which is not reflected in the TrustPilot ratings. Of course, these ratings are dependent on the people who leave a review.
The top scoring categories for Ideal Heating were reliability and ease of sourcing parts, which is the best news for cost-conscious consumers. The reliability rating is backed up by Ideal’s generous warranties and the wide availability of parts means you won’t have to wait very long for your boiler to be repaired when it breaks down.
Ideal Overall Score
Based on responses from a September survey 2023 Which? members about their boilers.
How do Ideal boilers compare with other boiler brands?
Ideal Heating fairs very well in the UK energy market. We tend to agree with Which? Readers. Ideal is only bettered by Vaillant and Worcester Bosch and even then there’s not a great deal in it. Ideal can certainly match Vaillant for price and they’re considerably less expensive than Worcester Bosch. Gas-safe engineers say that Worcester Bosch has the best build quality, but is a pain to install.
Glow Worm, Baxi and Viessmann Vitodens 100-W are also worth investigating to compare boiler prices, but we think you’ll be hard-pressed to find better value for money than Ideal.
Boiler Prices Verdict on the Ideal Boilers: 4.5/5
All considered, we feel Ideal deserve to be marked among the upper echelons of energy-efficient boiler brands in the UK. The Hull-based manufacturer is a celebrated centurion in the energy-efficient boiler business and produces some of the most cost-effective boilers in the UK.
We’re particularly impressed by the build quality and reliability factors in relation to their affordable pricing — and we are well impressed they are prepared to put their money where their mouth is by offering weighty warranties that back up their claims for delivering high-quality and high-performing boilers.
We reached our verdict by analysing various customer feedback sites and taking into account the quality of the customer service, overall satisfaction, reliability and value for money together with what gas-safe engineers say about how the ease of sourcing Ideal parts and repairing their boilers. And given that 90% of respondents give Ideal a 5-star rating on TrustPilot, we’re satisfied they deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
Another factor we consider is the energy efficiency a boiler brand has achieved — or more precisely, how friendly a boiler is to the environment. Ideal Heating’s 94% ErP exceeds the government’s target of 92% ErP which is good news for UK homeowners.
Ideal’s Logic, Logic+ and Vogue boiler were also recommended in the Good Housekeeping Reader Recommended in 2017 and 2018.
Good Housekeeping asked consumers to review their Ideal boilers and give feedback on performance, ease of use, overall acceptability and the likelihood of buying or recommending the boiler.
The reviewers came back with some extremely positive comments, with 95% rating their boiler as being excellent or very good and 98% saying that their boiler provides plenty of hot water based on the size of their family.
Although this survey was conducted over a year ago, little has changed. Analysing the most up-to-date customer reviews on various review sites and consumer magazines, Ideal Heating continues to receive excellent ratings.
We also marked Ideal up for providing excellent customer service which can be hard to find in the UK energy sector. If you prefer hassle-free communication and minimal wait times for boiler repairs, Ideal beats most competitors.
The only fault we can find is the energy efficiency of Ideal boilers is not as high as some of their closest competitors. Having said that, the SUBDEK percentage is still high so we only docked half a point.
So overall, Ideal performs admirably well across all categories and gets a 4.5/5 rating from us.
So, why buy an Ideal boiler?
Ideal is a trusted company with a track record of delivering high-quality energy-efficient boilers. With a proven history of innovation, and reliability, their latest range features smart controls, allowing users to manage and monitor their heating systems remotely and operate quietly which is desirable for homeowners who prioritize a peaceful living environment. In addition, Ideal Heating receives a lot of love from customers and consumer review magazines like Which? And Good Housekeeping. This indicates that Ideal products meet the standards for quality and performance the British public demand.

Why You Can Trust Boilers Prices
Boiler Prices were established in 2013 to help you identify the best boiler for your home and to get access to the most affordable boiler quotes from a central location without having to waste time shopping around. Our service is fast, efficient and effective. We source the best quotes offered by national installers and local boiler installers.
But it’s all very well and good reading the information we publish on our website, but how do you know you can trust the advice we provide?
Well, first and foremost, we want to assure you that Boiler Prices does not have any direct affiliation with Viessmann or any other boiler manufacturer. The information we present is 100% unbiased, impartial and given to the best of our knowledge.
Moreover, we source our information from customer feedback, and recognised review websites (like Which? and Energy Savings Trust etc) together with gas-safe engineers and other professionals working in the energy and heating sector.
We appreciate that UK homeowners want to know if these new energy-efficient boilers are reliable, efficient and available for a good price. Boiler Prices not only step in to provide information you can trust, but we also save you hours of time having to research the extensive boiler market.
For the best and most cost-effective boiler prices, you will have to do some shopping around. We recommend getting a quote from a national installer and a local boiler installer to see which gives you the best price. When you use Boiler Prices as your platform to look for boiler prices this is what we provide you with as a matter of course.
Boiler Prices have been providing UK homeowners with trustworthy information and boiler price comparisons since 2013. Not only that but our founder, Duncan Cumming has over a decade of experience in the boiler industry working directly with consumers. He is fully aware that reliable information needs to be improved in the boiler market and knows the questions homeowners want answered.
All these factors make Boiler Prices the most trusted source of information about energy-efficient boilers – because we provide up-to-date and accurate information together with honest appraisals that say it how it is.
